Here is a look at the West Coast athletes competing at Wednesday’s Brooks PR


2-Mile


Sadie Engelhardt of Ventura has run the second fastest 3200-meter time of 9:51.49 this spring and has a chance at last year’s meet record set by Dalia Frias of Mira Costa of 9:50.70. Belmont’s (MA) Ellie Shea will be racing to win too as well as a number of athletes who have broken 10-minutes this season.


Vince Recupero of Bishop Blanchet

Tyrone Gorze of Crater is the top west coast athlete in the 2-mile. He won the Oregon Relays in the 2-mile and just missed the Oregon state record set by Steve Prefontaine. Zack Munson of Sehome, Vincent Recupero of Bishop Blanchet and Aaron Lakeman of Tualatin are also entered. Daniel Simmons of American Fork (UT) and Simeon Birnbaum of Rapid City Stevens (SD) will have a rematch from their incredible 3200-meter race at Arcadia.


800 Meters


Hannah Riggins of Del Norte ran 2:06.69 and finished fourth at Arcadia and Cate Peters of Monte Vista ran 2:06.89 in the spring of 2022. Junior Ali Ince of Normal Community (IL) looks to win the Brooks PR 800 for the third straight year.


Carter Cutting of Wilsonville

Carter Cutting of Wilsonville ran 1:50.24 last year at Brooks PR and Aaron Sahlman of Newbury Park, who is battling an IT injury, is entered in the 800. The race can be won by anyone including Dan Watcke of Hinsdale (IL), Tyler Matthews of Red Mountain (AZ) and Tinoda Matsatsa of St. Andrews Episcopal (MA).


Mile


Payton Godsey of Oaks Christian

Payton Godsey of Oaks Christian finished second at the California State Meet in the 3200-meters. She has run 4:44.13 in the mile this season. Chiara Dailey of La Jolla has run 4:42.69 for the 1600 and Allura Markow of Dana Hills has run 4:44.56 in the mile this season. Tatum David of Richland County (IL) ran 4:37.79 last week at HOKA Festival of Miles.


Sophomore Owen Powell of Mercer Island and Wes Shipsey of Central Catholic have both run 4:07 in the mile this year and Will Schneider of Bishop Blanchet ran 4:10 last spring. Jackson Heidesch of Dowling Catholic (IA) has already broken the 4-minute mile barrier by running 3:59.08 at last week’s HOKA Festival of Miles.
