Clovis Invitational expands to a two day meet this year at Woodward Park in Fresno, CA. The preview will cover the championship races Saturday morning.
Bill Buettner Girls Championship Race 8:55 Saturday
Buchanan, Santiago (Corona) and JSerra all ran in NXN last December and will be racing in the Bill Buettner Girls Championship Saturday morning. Other notable schools racing will be Ventura, St Francis (Mountain View), Del Norte, Claremont, Murrieta Valley and El Toro. The championship race is filled with starts like Rylee Blade of Santiago (Corona) who won the prestigious Woodbridge Sweepstakes in September in course record time. Sadie Engelhardt of Ventura, Hanne Thomsen of Montgomery (Santa Rosa), Braelyn Combe of Santiago (Corona), Abby Errington of South Pasadena, Grace Smith of Claremont, Mackenzie Forrest of Tesoro, Keaton Robar of Newport Harbor, Maya DeBrouwer of La Canada and Summer Wilson of Irvine.
Rob Brenner Boys Championship Race 9:30 Saturday
Perennial California power Great Oak is one of the teams in the Rob Brenner Boys Championship. Crater of Oregon finished third at the sweepstakes race at Woodbridge a few weeks ago. Jesuit of California won Nike Portland XC two weeks ago. Martin Luther King, Matilda Torres, Beckman, Menlo Schools, JSerra, Oaks Christian and Glendora have a chance to establish themselves as State Meet contenders. Josiah Tostenson finished second at Woodbridge a few weeks ago and will challenge the California talent. Crater teammate Tayvon Kitchen will also be one of the individual contenders in the championship race. Maximo Zavaleta of MLK, Broen Holman of Sonora, Griffin Kushen of Tesoro, Aydon Stefanopoulos of Los Gatos, Liam Miller of South Torrance and JR Lesher of Hueneme are other individuals who are looking for the individual championship crown.
