California runners compete under the lights at the LA County Fairgrounds in Pomona on Saturday night. Several of the top teams and individual athletes from California line up for the Sundown Showdown races on Saturday.
Last year Rylee Blade of Santiago (Corona) dominated last year’s Cool Breeze Sundown Showdown and looks to defend her title. Her teammates Braelyn Combe and Taylor Davis will be other contenders. Other athletes to watch include Arielle Avina of Murrieta Valley, Brynn Garcia of JSerra, Erika Kirk of Vista Murrieta, Isla Bulmer of Claremont, Mackenzie Forrest and Amber Dazey of Tesoro.
Santiago (Corona) headlines the Girls Sundown Showdown. Santiago (Corona) girls team made it to NXN last season and have a good shot of returning this fall. Other teams to watch in the girl’s Sundown Showdown include host Claremont, Murrieta Valley and Great Oak.
The Boys Sundown Showdown features several athletes that will take center stage this fall in California. Maximo Zavaleta of Martin Luther King, Zion Ortiz, the Great Oak triple threats Jack Paradise, Jacob Brown and Westin Brown will be racing Saturday night at the Pomona Fairgrounds. Other boys who will make an impression on Saturday are Griffin Kushen of Tesoro, Dylan Flores of Glendora, Liam Miller of South Torrance, Andrew Burr from Sacramento Country Day and Josiah Bowman of Sage Creek.
Two of the early season team favorites to possibly make it to NXN in December, Great Oak and MLK, are racing head to head on Saturday in the boy’s Sundown Showdown. Other strong returning boy’s teams include Glendora, Tesoro and Oak Park.
