University of Washington hosts its third and last indoor meet at the Dempsey this season on Friday and Saturday. Collegiate athletes are looking to make a qualifying mark for the NCAA Championships as the indoor season winds down. Here are athletes of interest in the distance events.


Friday


BYU Women

Many of the top NCAA women distance programs line up for the distance medley with the hope to race again at the NCAA Championship in March. Northern Arizona, BYU, Stanford, Washington, Utah and New Mexico will make for an exciting women's distance medley. California, Stanford and Washington men line up for the distance medley.

The women's INVITE 3000 will be raced on Saturday, but notable high school athletes will race the 3000 on Friday including Crescent Valley's Emily Wisniewski, Elissa Schaeffer of Sunset, Cassidy Armstrong of Ballard, Chloe Huyler of Lakeridge and Victoria Rodriguez of Mercer Island.

The men's 3000 on Friday headlines Nico Young of Adidas who is racing for the first time since the 10,000 meter final at the Paris Olympics. His high school teammate from Newbury Park, Colin Sahlman of NAU is also racing along with Habtom Samuel of New Mexico, Casey Clinger of BYU, Drew Bosely of NAU and Nathan Green of Washington. Several high school athletes race in the 3000 including Malachi Schoenherr of Sheldon, Tayvon Kitchen and Josiah Tostenson of Crater.

The women's 5000 on Friday includes Jenna Hutchins of BYU, Zofia Dudek of Stanford and Zenah Cheptoo of Washington State. Evan Kiplagat of New Mexico, Thomas Boyden and Vincent Chirchir of New Mexico are some of the top men's entries in the 5000. Zafer Courcelle of Franklin High School in Portland and Aiden Le Roux of Cheyanne Mountain High School of Colorado will be in one of the earlier 5000 heats.


Saturday

Laura Pellicoro of Portland ran the fastest NCAA mile this indoor season two weeks ago at the Dempsey and moves to the 800 on Saturday. She will race against Juliette Whittaker of Stanford, who make the Paris Olympic final in the 800, and Tessa Buswell of BYU who won the high school California State Meet 800 last spring. Local high school star Alexa Matora of Lake Washington also races in the 800.

Justin O'Toole and Kyle Reinheimer have had close finishes in the last two Washington indoor races and will be back at it in the 800. Keirnan Lumb of On and Colin Sahlman of NAU will also be factors in the 800. Brennan McEwen of Franklin High School of Portland races in an earlier heat of the 800.

Maggi Congdon of Northern Arizona, an Olympic Trial finalist in the 1500, is the INVITE Mile on Saturday. Anna Camp of Adidas, Sadie Sargent of Nike, Agnes McTighe of Northern Arizona, Meghan Hunter of BYU and Amy Bunnage of Stanford are other noteworthy milers. High school athletes Alexa Matora of Lake Washington and Chloe Huyler of Lakeridge are also racing the mile in earlier heats.

Pros Nico Young of Adidas, Joe Waskom of Adidas, Kieran Lumb of On, Henry Wynne of Books Beasts and Brian Fay of Melbourne Track will make for a fast mile. College runners Habtom Samuel of New Mexico and Aidan McCarthy of Cal Poly are also entered in the fast heat of the mile. High school athletes Aiden Le Roux of Cheyenne Mountain, Tayvon Kitchen and Josiah Tostenson of Crater and Owen Powell of Mercer Island will mix it up with college athletes.

Finally, the women's INVITE 3000 is loaded with talented athletes. Riley Chamberlain and Lexy Halladay-Lowry of BYU, Elise Stearns of Northern Arizona, Amina Maatoug and Chloe Foerster of Washington, Rosina Machu-Shuri of Gonzaga and Sophia Kennedy of Stanford are among the many excellent athletes at Saturday's INVITE 3000.
