Night Meet - August 25
Wilsonville High School - Wilsonville, OR
Oregon’s cross-country season opens this week and a popular meet is the Night Meet held at Wilsonville High School near Portland, OR. The meet is organized by grade level, has a distance of 3000-meters and is known for a fast course as it starts and finishes on the track with the middle part of the course run on field turf.
Since it is an early season meet, some of the entries may change. Below are athletes to look for at the Night Meet.
Girls
The Night Meet can be the debut of top-level Oregon girl athletes in the freshman race. In the sophomore race, Avery Meier of West Salem, Elissa Schaeffer of Sunset and Madison Zemper-Prill of South Eugene are athletes to watch. Ana Peters of Lake Oswego is the defending 6A Oregon Cross Country State Champion and leads the junior race. Amelia Campbell of Grant, Sophia Malinoski of Lincoln and Kailua Balazs of Sunset are other top junior athletes.
Keira Saavedra of Lincoln is listed in the senior race and ran last fall at NXN. Ella McGillis of Central Catholic, Josie Fale of Ida B Wells and Sabine Kim of Tigard are other strong seniors at the Night Meet.
Boys
With a strong senior class graduating last fall in Oregon, we get a chance to see the next wave of male athletes at the Night Meet. Brennan McEwen of Franklin, Garrett Fenske of West Salem and Zander Campbell of South Albany will be pushing the pace in the junior race.
The senior race will be competitive with last year’s junior Night Meet champion Jack Meier of West Salem leading the way. Asher Danielson of Ida Be Wells is coming off a strong track season and is listed in the senior race. Other senior contenders include Collin Penuel of Southridge, Quentin Nelson of Ida B Wells, Emil Nelson of Franklin, Matthew Resnick of South Albany and Kaleb Euchi of Westview are also entered.
