of the more popular races in the Oregon high school season is under the lights at Wilsonville High School on a 3000 meter course on the campus. It is a way for athletes to make a statement about their summer training and what is to come in the season.
In the girl’s senior race, the OSAA 800-meter champion Sophia Malinoski will be one of the favorites. She will have plenty of company as Emma West of Crater, 1500 and 3000 2A OSAA champion Daisy Lalonde of East Linn Christian, Lauren Tittel of OES, Maya Crimin of La Salle Prep and Amelia Campbell of Grant are entered in the senior race. In the junior race, Elyse Henriksen of Lincoln, sophomore Night Meet champion Avery Meier of West Salem, Elissa Schaeffer of Sunset, Reese Garnica of Crater and Nelida Dalgas lead a deep field. Ellery Lincoln of Lincoln won the freshman Night Meet last year and should lead the sophomore girls race Friday night. Lauren Gerlach of Tualatin, Evylee Bugher and Tyler Thomas of Sherwood, Sydney Joule of Tigard and Haddie Barsalou of Crater are also outstanding sophomores entered on Friday night.
Some of the top runners are in the boys senior division which includes Franklin seniors Zafer Courcelle, Brennan McEwen and Leaf McQuillen, Dylan Weniger of Sherwood Garrett Fenske of West Salem, Joshua Hepner of McDaniel and Finn Briscoe of Central Catholic. Defending 3000 meter OSAA track champion Malachi Schoenherr of Sheldon leads the junior racers. Liam Wilde from host Wilsonville, Kai Jensen of Cleveland and Connor Gosselin of Lincoln are other junior contenders. Paul Hretcanu of Tigard races in the sophomore boys race and won the freshman race last year. Yosuke Shibata of South Eugene, Maxwell Miracle and Nathan Goode of Crater and Peter James of Lincoln will also race in the sophomore boys race.
