Glendoveer Golf Course - Portland, OR
Watch HERE
Twenty-two teams and 50 individuals from each race will race on Saturday in what looks like will be a rainy day of racing. The first race at 10:05 will be the boys championship race.
Boys Championship 10:05
Daniel Simmons of American Fork is the top returner and favorite at Saturday's NXN Championship race. Also Simmons' American Fork team looks to battle fellow Utah school Herriman in the team race. Top west coast athletes who hope to make All-American status and possibly compete to win include junior Evan Noonan of Dana Hills. Noonan ran at last year's NXN race and ran the fastest time at last Saturday's California State Meet. Other west coast challengers include Emmanuel Perez of Cathedral who won the California Division IV state title and also raced at Glendoveer last year. Lucas Cohen of Albany and Broen Holman of Sonora finished close to Perez last week and will be factors too. California has won the last two NXN boys championships with Newbury Park winning in 2019 and 2022. Dana Hills and San Clemente have strong enough teams to break up American Fork and Herriman. Crater finished fourth last year at NXN and return with experience.
Girls Championship 11:35
The New York region has long dominated in the girl's NXN era. This year it looks like the Southwest region may be the girls teams at NXN. From a west coach standpoint, JSerra and Santiago (Corona) have the opportunity to make it to the awards stage on Saturday. Buchanan finished third last year and returns to NXN. Rachel Forsyth of Ann Arbor and Elizabeth Leachman of Boerne Champion are some of the national favorites, but there are west coast challengers as well. Sadie Engelhardt of Ventura recently won the Division II crown at the California State Meet and has ran some of the fastest times in Woodward Park course history at the Clovis Invitational and California State Meet. Emily Wisniewski of Crescent Valley has run times in Oregon that ranks her among the all-time greats in the state. At NXR in Boise, Logan Hofstee of East Valley in Washington stayed close to Wisniewski. Rylee Blade of Santiago (Corona) has run times that nearly match Englehardt in California. Blade won the Division I race at the California State Meet. Holly Barker of Trabuco Hills, Anna Callahan of Skyline and Hanne Thomsen of Montgomery (Santa Rosa) are other individual west coast contenders.
