Another exciting year of races in Boise at the championship races at NXR.
Girls Championship
From a team championship standpoint, some thought Rocky Mountain girls had the best chance to advance and second place was anyone's guess. Rocky Mountain did win their place at NXN in Portland. Lincoln made NXN last year and hoped to repeat another appearance. Timberline of Idaho also waited anxiously as the results were tabulated. In the end Lincoln returns and Timberline missed the top two spots by a mere four points. Summit finished fourth.
The battle for the top five individuals making it to NXN was easy to watch as Rocky Mountain and Lincoln individuals were not in the front pack. With about 800-meters to go, it looked like Sophia Rodriguez of Mercer Island had the title wrapped up, but Chloe Huyler of Lakeridge came from behind to win in a time of 17:00.0. Emily Wisniewski of Crescent Valley, Sophia's sister Victoria Rodriguez of Mercer Island and Elektra Higgins of Peninsula will join Chloe and Sophia at NXN.

Boys Championship
Before the boys toed the line, conventional wisdom had a battle between Coeur d'Alene, Crater and Jesuit. Illness to the Crater team made for a dramatic finish. Coeur d'Alene won the race and now teams waited for which ones were going to Portland. Jesuit learned the news that they are headed back home for NXN as the second place team. Rocky Mountain edged out Crater for third.
Tayvon Kitchen of Crater pulled away from the field with a mile to go. The rest of the boys tried to reel him in, but Kitchen won in a time of 14:53.3. Jase Burton of Star Valley, Owen Powell of Mercer Island, Kade Brownell of Mt Spokane and Nate Stadlander of Meridian took the next four spots for NXN. Later we learned that Brownell decided to decline his invitation to NXN and try to qualify for Footlocker in December. Hayden Boaz of Summit received an invitation to NXN.
