Portland Track Festival – June 3 & 4

Mt Hood Community College – Gresham, OR


Many west coast high school athletes are competing at the two-day track meet held this year at Mt. Hood Community College.


Saturday


Tyrone Gorze of Crater

The girl’s 2000-meter steeplechase features 4A Oregon state 800-meter champion Haley Butenschoen of Stayton. Aaron Lakeman of Tualatin, who finished second last week in the Oregon 6A 800-meters, is listed in Saturday’s 5000-meter race. Tyrone Gorze of Crater, who won last week’s Oregon 5A 3000- meter race, is going after the high school 10,000-meter record set by Rudy Chapa in 1976 of 28:32. Chapa is giving Tyrone the jersey he wore in 1976.


Sunday


Leo Young of Newbury Park

Newbury Park’s Brayden Seymour, Jeffrey Hellman of Crater, Josiah Tostenson of Crater and Logan Law of Milwaukie (OR) are entered in the open 1500 on Sunday. Haley Blaine of West Albany and Skye Knox of Summit squared off last week in Oregon’s 5A 1500 and will run the open 1500.


Owen Powell of Mercer Island, who won Washington’s 3A 1600, Will Heslam of Roosevelt, who won Oregon’s 800 and 1500-meter races last week and Wes Shipsey of Central Catholic, who finished second at last week’s Oregon 6A 1500, are listed in the high performance 800-meter race. Oregon 5A 800-meter champion Lindsay Siebert of Crater is in the women’s high performance 800-meter race.


Sadie Engelhardt of Ventura

Leo Young of Newbury Park highlights the high performance 1500-meter race. Young’s 3:39.39 1500-meter time is the fastest by a high school athlete this season. Lex Young of Newbury Park is also listed in the 1500 and has run 3:47.29 this season. Carter Cutting of Wilsonville is also entered in the high performance 1500. Cutting won Oregon’s 5A 1500-meter in a state meet record of 3:47.18. Sadie Engelhardt of Ventura won last week’s California State Meet 1600 in a record time of 4:33.45. Engelhardt is in the high performance 1500-meters. Gioana Lopizzo of La Costa Canyon is entered in the high performance in 1500. Lopizzo finished third last week at the California State Meet in the 3200.


Barrett Justema (left) of Summit and Emily Wisniewski of Crescent Valley

Oregon state champions Barrett Justema of Summit (1500, 5A), Emily Wisniewski of Crescent Valley (3000, 5A) and Emma Bennett of Jesuit (1500 & 800, 6A) headline the high school girl’s mile. Anthony Fast Horse of Ventura ran 4:08.84 last week to take third in the 1600-meter California State Meet and is featured in the boy’s mile. Alexander Garcia-Silver of Marshfield won last week’s Oregon 4A 3000 and is entered in the mile. Other boys to watch are Micah Grossman of Ventura, Kai Mitchell-Reiis and Asher Danielson of Ida B Wells, Cruize Corvin of Lakes and Jack Henzke of Seattle Prep.
