The Podium is hosting their annual three day indoor high school invitational. There are a number of distance events from the 5000 meter race to the 4 X 800. Here are some of the athletes to watch in the 800, mile and 3000 meter races.


800 Meters


Ginger Oberg of Roosevelt
Ginger Oberg of Roosevelt

Sophie Schoolmeester of Banks is the defending Oregon 3A 800 meter champion and is in the 800 fast heat. Ginger Oberg of Roosevelt (WA) has a personal best of 2:12 and Julie Couch of Auburn Riverside has won the 800 meter Washington state championship in 2023.

Wilson Schmidt of Belgrade HS in Montana ran 1:50.82 at Nike Outdoor Nationals last June. Reid Bartholomew of Gallatin (MT) won the 800 in the Spokane HS Preview two weeks ago. Ryan Khoury of Stanwood (WA) finished fourth at the 800 meter Washington State Meet


Mile

Many of the athletes in the girl's invitational mile have broken five minutes in the mile. Chloe Huyler of Lakeridge (OR) was recently named Gatorades' POY in cross country and leads the field. Other contenders include Julia Couch of Auburn Riverside (WA), Sophie Schoolmeester of Banks (OR) and Avery Meier of West Salem (OR).

There are several athletes in the boy's invitational mile who have competed in national cross country meets last fall like Kade Brownell of Mt Spokane (WA), Nate Stradtlanter of Meridian (ID), Maximus and Zackery Cervi-Skinner of Coeur D'Alene (ID), Hayden Boaz of Summit (OR) and Noah Louwerse of Langley (BC).


3000 Meters

Four girls listed in the 3000 have seed times under ten minutes in the 3000 including Chloe Huyler of Lakeridge (OR), Avery Meier of West Salem (OR), Hannah Huyler of Lakeridge (OR) and Sloan Dickson of Lynden (WA).

The boy's 3000 meters have several athletes with seed times at 8:30 or faster. Leading the list are Hayden Boaz of Summit (OR) and Connor Rickey of Issaquah. Other challengers include Dylan Weniger of Sherwood (OR), Matthew Wroblewski and Kellen Williams of Jesuit (OR), Maximus and Zackery Cervi-Skinner of Coeur D'Alene (ID) and Mason Morical of Caldera (OR).
