Stanford Invitational - March 29 & 30


Athletes competed through the rain, wind and cold elements for Friday's Stanford Invitational. Despite the rough conditions, athletes performed at a high level on Friday. Mostly sunny days returned on Saturday at Palo Alto.


High School


Amaya Aramini Bishop Manogue and Eleanor Raker of Galena

The rain came down pretty hard during the high school 3200-meter race. In the girl's 3200-meter race, it was a battle between two Reno, Nevada athletes Eleanor Raker of Galena and Amaya Aramini of Bishop Manogue. Raker eventually came away the winner for the second year in a row at Stanford with the time of 10:34.50. Jason Parra of Millikan finished second in the 3200 meter race at last spring's California State Meet. He seemed determined to break nine minutes as he took the pace out. Parra came close to breaking nine minutes and finished at 9:01.20. Campolindo girls ran a state leading time in the distance medley with a time of 11:57.26. Shea Volkmer of Campolindo finished with a 4:47 on the 1600-meter leg. Jesuit of Carmichael also ran a state best time in the boy's DMR running 10:22.48.

College/Open


Wil Smith of Gonzaga and Evan Jenkins of Washington

Riley Chamberlain of BYU continues to impress this season and ran the fastest 1500-meter time with a 4:11.52 time. Ezekiel Rop of Iowa State closed fast in the men's 1500 to win in 3:40.09. Rop finished just ahead of reigning NCAA 1500-meter champion Nathan Green of Washington. Another victory for Iowa State happened in the women's 3000 meter steeplechase as Janette Schraft ran the fastest time of 9:48.20. Eastern Kentucky's Abdelhakim Abouzouhir ran the fast heat of the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 8:37.52. Maddy Elmore of Oregon finished her 5000-meter race with a win and said as she crossed the line, "School record!" She was right! Elmore ran 15:15.79 for the Oregon school record and ninth all-time in the NCAA. Eastern Kentucky's Taha Er Raouy won heat one of the men's 5000-meter in a time of 13:36.76. Alabama's Hilda Olemomoi caught pro Dani Polerecky in the women's 10,000 to win in 32:22.20. Washington's Evan Jenkins and Gonzaga's Wil Smith battled to the finish in an exciting men's 10,000 with Jenkins coming away victorious with a time of 28:04.58 for a new school record. Stanford's Ky Robinson finished 12th at 28:15.12 in the 10,000 and ran the 5000 meters 12 hours earlier in 13:35.95 (fastest time for day in the 5000-meters). Robinson is juggling his NCAA season and the Australian Olympic Trials in April. He was able to get his two marks for May's NCAA regional.

Saturday - High School


Evan Noonan of Dana Hills

Shea Volkmer of Campolindo led her team in the distance medley on Friday and returned to win the 1600-meter race in 4:47.95. Volkmer dominated the race with a ten second victory. Grant Morgenfeld of Palo Alto set the early pace in the boy's 1600 and Evan Noonan of Dana Hills closed with an impressive last lap to win in 4:06.80. The mark also set the meet record and is the fastest time in California this season. Tatum Olesen patiently raced the girl's 800-meters to pull away with a 2:11.21 victory. Gabriel Rodriguez of Great Oak ran a strong 800 with competitors chasing him. Rodriguez finished in a time of 1:54.09.

Saturday - College/Open


Raevyn Rogers of Nike Union Athletics Club

There were sixteen heats of the 800 between the men and women on Saturday. Professional Raevyn Rogers paced the 1500 on Friday and on Saturday raced the 800 for the win in a time of 2:02.57. Rogers help pace Riley Chamberlain of BYU and Chloe Foerster of Washington and Foerster finished second in 2:03.34 and Chamberlain finished third in 2:04.32. Adam Spencer of Wisconsin, like Ky Robinson, leaves for Australia soon for the Olympic Trials. Before he left, Spencer won the fast heat of the 800 in a time of 1:47.47.
