Trabuco Hills Boys Summer Practice

Updated: Aug 13

Trabuco Hills boys, coached by Liam Clemons, recently returned from team camp at Idyllwild, California which is located in the mountains near Palm Springs. Trabuco Hills High School is located in Mission Viejo, California. The plan for the day's practice is to have an easy day and quickly get to registration as school is about to start. Trabuco Hills boys made the podium last fall at the California State Meet for division 1 thanks to their third place finish. Here is information about the boy's team:

During the summer season, how often does the team practice?

During the summer season the team practices Monday-Saturday with an off day on Sundays. Depending on the group, there maybe be a day where we will double run in the afternoon

What are some special summer activities?

Some special activities that our team takes part in during the summer are watermelon rugby, beach days, infection, and breakfast after practice. We also get the opportunity to go up to a week in altitude and tent camp which is always fun. We have an initial week in June that is just for the Varsity team. We set some goals and get everyone on the same page. Later in the summer, we take the full team to Idyllwild for a team running camp. That is a fun week full of games, trips into the town, a movie day, and f course a lot of running.

How do you build team culture?

We build team culture by hanging out with each other outside of practice. Whether that be video games, a pool/beach day, poker night, or simply just going out to eat. We do a lot to build culture. It starts with the coaches modeling behavior and attitudes that we want to see from the boys. I speak with the varsity about leadership during the first week of practice. The boys take it from there and set up team bonding events. This year, we have a new team room that gives us a place to meet every day and display all of our awards.

What are some events that the team is looking forward to in the fall season?

Some events that our team is looking forward to this fall is the opportunity to go to Arizona and run a race out there. We are also looking forward to see what we are capable of as a team and to preform at the best level we can. For example our team goal is to make it to state and preform well there. The team likes to race, so they are excited to get going. We start off with our invitational, the Saddleback Cup. It is a fun 2-mile race at night on campus. I think that the varsity team is really excited to race at the Desert Twilight Invitational in AZ and the Clovis Invitational. Those travel trips are fun and great practice for the demands of the state championships.
