With over 600 men and women entered in Mile City on Saturday, the University of Washington is building on their recent successes in the 1500 and mile. Last year eight Washington men broke four minutes in the mile in the same race and the Huskies have six athletes on the line in the fastest heat of the mile including Joe Waskom, Luke Houser and Nathan Green. Matthew Centrowitz, the 2016 1500 meter champion will also line up in the Mile City event. The women will also shine in Mile City with Sophie O'Sullivan of Washington, Laura Pellicoro of Portland and Kaylee Mitchell of Oregon State competing. The 2023 USATF 1500-meter champion Nikki Hiltz and Australian Olympian Jessica Hull will race in the 1000 meters.
Washington's Carley Thomas headlines the 800-meter race. Emily Wisniewski of Crescent Valley High school in Corvallis, OR (Wisniewski is also listed in the 3000) and Sophia Rodriguez of Mercer Island of Washington will mix it up with the pros and college athletes in the women's 5000. Gioana Lopizzo of La Costa Canyon High School, Alexa Matora of Lake Washington, Hailey Cossey of Mt Si and Victoria Rodriguez of Mercer Island are some of the high school athletes racing with college and pro athletes in Mile City.
The men's 3000 features pros John Gay, Eric Avila, Aaron Bienenfeld and Gonzaga's Wil Smith. Josiah Tostenson of Crater High School will also be in the 3000. Several high school athletes are joining the Mile City fun. Owen Powell of Mercer Island, Blake Reynolds of Central Kitsap, Tayvon Kitchen of Crater, Jack Henzke of Seattle Prep and Vince Recupero of Bishop Blanchet are among the many high school athletes in the Mile City event. Food trucks and a DJ will add to the festivities on Saturday. The 5000 and 3000 meter races will be competed on Friday.
