Woodbridge Invitational Preview

Woodbridge Invitational – September 15-16

Orange County Great Park – Irvine, CA


Woodbridge High School hosts the 42nd Woodbridge Cross Country Classic by Asics, one of the largest and most competitive cross country meets in the country on Friday and Saturday in Irvine, Ca. We will highlight some of the top west coast cross country programs at the meet and west coast athletes in the sweepstakes races.


Sadie Engelhardt of Ventura

Buchanan High School girls won the sweepstakes race last year and are hoping to repeat the feat this year. DyeStat has the Bears of Buchanan ranked second on their preseason ranking. Buchanan also finished third last December at NXN. Other DyeStat ranked west coast schools include #8 JSerra, #22 Ventura, #28 Rancho Cucamonga and #35 Oaks Christian.

Top individuals returning include Sadie Engelhardt of Ventura, who is the preseason #3 according to DyeStat, and last year ran the fastest 3-mile time in high school history with a time of 15:42.6. Payton Godsey of Oaks Christian finished second last year at Woodbridge with a 15:51.9 time and returns to the sweepstakes race with her team. Other preseason ranked athletes include Chiara Dailey of La Jolla, Rylee Blade of Santiago/Corona, Maya DeBrouwer of La Canada, Hanne Thomsen of Montgomery of Santa Rosa, Emily Wisniewski of Crescent Valley (OR), Gioana Lopizzo of La Costa Canyon, Tessa Buswell of Poway, Ashlyn Boothby of Scotts Valley, Lindsay Siebert of Crater, Holly Barker of Trabuco Hills and Aelo Curtis of Ventura.


Jason Parra (674) of Millikan

Crater of Oregon finished second last year at Woodbridge in the boys’ team sweepstakes and return this weekend as the fourth rated team in the DyeStat preseason rankings. Crater finished fourth last December at NXN too. Other west coast schools ranked and racing in the sweepstakes race include #6 Ventura, #10 Trabuco Hills, #11 San Clemente, #25 Dana Hills and #33 Mira Costa.

Top returner from last year’s sweepstakes race is Jason Parra of Millikan. Parra broke the 14 minute 3-mile barrier by running 13:56.5. The next finisher, Josiah Tostenson of Crater, also returns after running 13:57.4. Other preseason ranked runners include Carter Spradling of Clovis East, Anthony Fast Horse of Ventura, Grant Morgenfeld of Palo Alto, Joshua Bell of Templeton, Evan Noonan of Dana Hills, Broen Holman of Sonora (S/J), Jack Meier of West Salem, Aydon Stefanopoulos of Los Gatos and Emmanuel Perez of Cathedral.
